Recently, magician Roy Horn- of Seigfried and Roy fame- was mauled by a tiger they were using in a show. The story was met with hope for his recovery, and notice of the dark side of show animals. That said, the story is just plain funny. The fact that El Tigero chomped down on the swishiest guy in Vegas only makes it funnier. Not many animals are raised by 2 gay men in a Nevada mansion. An occasional poodle maybe, or perhaps a Utility Hamster. Anything bigger is not recommended. Tigers are a real bad idea. Take any animal out of the natural habitat, and things go wrong. When it is a Schnauzer, the end result is a stained carpet and some out-of-context barking. Schnauzers have been living among humans for over 5000 years, and are what we call "domesticated". They also weigh about 10-12 pounds. Tigers haven't been, aren't, and don't. A tiger goes about 6oo lbs, and can eviscerate an antelope at 40mph. It generally lives in the savannah- tall grasses that attract prey and offer concealment. They kill by biting down on the throat, throttling their prey. They aren't the kind of beast you want to find sprawled out on the floor between you and the nearest point of egress, unless it is in rug form. Few creatures screw around with tigers if they can avoid it. Fewer still attempt to make it jump through a hoop, or put their head inside the maw of the beast. There's a reason for that. One is Darwinism- animals and humans who had genetic predispositions towards messing with tigers were culled from the flock during the Saber-Tooth era. Another reason is that tigers have a certain swagger about them that sort of discourages mirth. The third is something called Potential Energy. A 600 pound tiger can do terrific damage to a 150 pound human who gets within striking distance. All of the above are really good reasons why we should just let Mr Tiger sit in the grass and chow on water buffalo. Unless a sandwich meat can be made from it, leave it bloody Africa or wherever. Should the S&R tiger be killed? It has shown that it will attack humans, and may even have a taste for human blood. There is also the very real chance that it may have contracted a social disease from it's Light in the Loafers Lunch. Should it take a Dirt Nap? Of course not. It's a TIGER, for the love of God. It is also a celebrity, a Superstar. It should be starved, injected with 400mg of speed, and let loose into the crowd at random public gatherings- the Grammy Awards, the Kentucky Derby and so forth....because sometimes you need to stir things up a bit. Of course, we need no tigers at WOW. We have Champions! Kathy, Josie and Meg are ruling their respective weight classes. The challengers are lining up already, many of whom have pretty solid credentials. Josie is said to be "fearing" Stacey. The Catfight and Tag Team tournaments are also on tap, so it promises to be an active autumn here in WOW City.
